Makos 4 Whites 2

An encouraging but ultimately disappointing start to the season. After leading 2-1 just after halftime, we done our usual trick of dying in the arse the final 20 minutes. How to combat this? Save our subs for later in the match? Change formation to protect a lead (or a draw)? All drink red bull at halftime? Points to ponder.
Lots of positives. The new trio Keith,Rod and Dennis all shone, bet you didnt expect this much work Dennis, welcome to life as a White goalie. Alex,Doug and Slugger all played with enthusiasm, and Kirk kept working away on the wings. Handball had his best match in ages, in the car driving out to cowra to pick up a couch his wife "won" on ebay. Dont worry Dave, Rod kept up the average of the central defence giving away a penalty a match with a neat little stiff arm.
Our goals werent bad either. AB put away a simple tap in after a floating cross from Les and nice flick on from Alex to level at 1-1, and SteveH's 20 metre thunderbolt gave us a fleeting lead. Les hit the post, Keith unlucky with the goalie in a one on one and big Steve ran hard all day.
The makos are a good team so no disgrace in losing to these guys. Next week doesnt get any easier with Shell City visiting the field of dreams and with both teams decimated by easter holidays should be an interesting war of attrition.

Maroons 2 Uni 1 Offsides 73

The Maroons opened their season on a field that looked more like a war zone than a football pitch. With the relaid astro grass covering the cricket pitch and a foot square of ripped up turf all around it, together with some 6 inch round holes sprinkled all over the pitch it wasn't just the opposition we had to battle.

We started off quite brightly and never looked in any danger of conceding, whilst at the other end had a sprinkling of chances, Shakey scoring reasonably early in the proceedings. Tom slotted in to the back four and his left footed shot that headed closer towards the corner flag than the goal proved it to have been a wise decision.

Half time came and went without Shane once mentioning not always looking for the "money ball" - and I consequently lost a bet! Into the second half and the Uni defence kept opening up, unfortunately we continued to be caught offside. I was starting to think we might regret missing so many chances (we'd hit the post a couple of times, unfortunately without anyone being able to follow up) - at which point Ant hit a screamer that found its way into the net off the under side of the bar and the game was done and dusted. It was only a question of how many we might get - at least I thought it was.

Uni finished off a well worked goal late in the game and we had a few minutes to see off. They never had another shot though and we saw the game out. I suspect Uni are going to be on the end of a few large scores and we'll certainly face better teams, but a win is a win and is a nice way to start the season off.

Score reporting, draw changes

Hi all
Good luck tomorrow and for the next few weeks. I hope to return to Oz with Coledale sitting 1-2 on the table, don't mind in which order.

I need someone to take care of reporting of home game scores. This can be done by texting your home scores to 0435019414. They have asked that you do not call. This needs to be done within 48 hours of the game or points will be deducted. PLease dive in an volunteer.

linesmen/ ref: At this stage it looks like ian will ref for free but we will pay linesmen from our junior ranks, allowing us to avoid this chore. They might not always be avilable so please put your hand (flag?) up if required.

The draw: There were many changes to the latest drawposted on the IAFA website this week. One of the teams in our division has merged with a new club so the draw changes could well affect us. Dean will be receiving an email with possible changes but also please keep an eye on their website:

there is also a link below, right in on our wavelength.

Trial etc

Hiya
One more Saturday before the season kicks off. We can probably organise an external trial for this Saturday 21st but I think we might be better served keeping it in house with maybe a beer afterwards if anyone keen.
Thinking 3pm at home ground on Sat. A poll will appear opposite. If we have enough for a trial in-house I might invite another team to come play after wed training.
So leave your vote.
Shane will be marking the field on Tuesday afternoon from about 4pm. We could do with help from any players who are around to clean out the gear shed with our first match coming soon.
Let me know if you can make it, or just roll up.
Cheers

Hi all
OIld Boys are looking for a trial with one or both of our teams on Saturday at 1pm (if both) and 3pm. Dependintg on numbers we might send a combined side or both teams might play in their teams with some borrowed across games.
