Following injuries to Dan and GP plus lengthy absences this season for Phil L, Ferg and Shaky plus the dodgy fitness of the fat bloke in the number 10, we've moved to strengthen the squad to 21 players. Maroons please make welcome John, who played in the trial last week, and Gavin, who has been running on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Meanwhile, we have 16 down to play this weekend at home at 3pm so the new boys will sit out. They will be in the mix for the game after. A reminder that if you are going to miss a game please visit the when I'm away tab over yonder right and put down your details.
Also on the right you will see we now have tabs where you can vote for the Player of the Year (not yet fergus). We enocurage you to get in there and vote after each match.

Coledale Cup: Maroons 2, Whites 1. Winner: The dressing shed
Two goals from Fergus helped the Maroons retain the Coledale Cup for a third straight season on a lush St James Park on Saturday. The biggest game of the club's calendar was pushed to the head of the queue because of the postponement of round one and served as a perfect dress rehearsal for the battles to come over the next 22 weeks of pain, glory and sledging.
Fergus, who if memory serves failed to find the net from open play last season as a striker, played as central defender for the Maroons and emphatically ended that drought. He rose to head home a sweet cross from Shane in the first half and then bundled in the winner after another set piece with eight minutes to play.
Those goals came either side of a goal by (someone write the scorer in the shoutbox and I'll insert) which came as the Whites enjoyed a sustained period of ascendency.
Perhaps the best bit of work all day came at the finish when under Shane's direction the dressing shed got a clean out ready for us to kick off the real season in style next week. Thanks to everyone for sticking around and helping out and to the Whites and most Maroons for following the no glass rule.
We're home for the next three weeks as well!

Coledale Cup

As long as it doesn't rain overnight or Saturday morning, we'll go ahead with a Whites v Maroons match at St James Park. Kick off will be 2pm sharp. There will be a few issues to work around. Zero tolerance of over physical play: We must keep in mind that we are from the same club and no one wants to be kicked out of action by a club mate.
There will not be proper goalposts, so we'll let you know how we're going to deal with that before kickoff.
The cricket pitch is not yet prepared for football. If you run across it with football studs it is a bit like ice skating and falling on it will hurt. There are to be no challenges of any kind on the cricket pitch. Any tackle or attempted tackle will result in a free kick.
If scores are even at fulltime, we will have a penalty shootout.
Feel free to BYO to the game but remember NO bottles, cans only. Broken glass is a danger to the kids who use the ground.
By playing in the game you agree to stick around for at least 40 minutes after final whistle to help clean out our sheds so they are usable next week when comp starts. If you need to run away right on the finish of the game, then please don't bother playing.
There will be unlimited interchange and as many subs as you like - teams don't have to play with 16.
See you there

Beautiful day, miserable announcement - no football this weekend
Here is a statement from Football South Coast, postponing football this weekend
Hi all
Unfortunately with all the rain on Monday the councils cannot put up the goalposts at a lot of the grounds.
Also teams are finding it hard to get grounds marked.
For these reasons Rd 1 has been postponed.
At this stage Rd 1 will be played on the spare weekend at the end of the season(Sat 26th August).
Could all home teams for Rd 2 make sure council has put up the posts and that grounds are marked.
For all teams that use junior grounds could you contact them and maybe give them a hand marking grounds.
Regards
