Coledale Cup: Maroons 2, Whites 1. Winner: The dressing shed

Two goals from Fergus helped the Maroons retain the Coledale Cup for a third straight season on a lush St James Park on Saturday. The biggest game of the club's calendar was pushed to the head of the queue because of the postponement of round one and served as a perfect dress rehearsal for the battles to come over the next 22 weeks of pain, glory and sledging.
Fergus, who if memory serves failed to find the net from open play last season as a striker, played as central defender for the Maroons and emphatically ended that drought. He rose to head home a sweet cross from Shane in the first half and then bundled in the winner after another set piece with eight minutes to play.
Those goals came either side of a goal by (someone write the scorer in the shoutbox and I'll insert) which came as the Whites enjoyed a sustained period of ascendency.
Perhaps the best bit of work all day came at the finish when under Shane's direction the dressing shed got a clean out ready for us to kick off the real season in style next week. Thanks to everyone for sticking around and helping out and to the Whites and most Maroons for following the no glass rule.
We're home for the next three weeks as well!
