Coledale Waves seniors took their baby steps Saturday with a win for the Maroons and a draw for the Whites.
The Maroons kicked off the seniors club first ever match and were a goal behind within two minutes as the ball flicked up off Jon S, Goalie Pete was unable to clear and it bounced in off the opposition forward.
That was about as good as it got for the IFS visitors and the Maroons were dominant throughout.
Ant Ritter scored a similar goal in response, after Shaky's header from GD's corner and the teams went in level at the break.
The Maroons dominance continued in the second half with several close shaves before Graeme P
surged into the box, fell theatrically under a a clumsy challenge and Fergus despatched the resultant penalty.
The Maroons stuck around for a BBQ and to cheer on the whites in their match against the Burgh's Sweat Hogs and celebrated two early goals through Stevie B and Stevie H.
The Hogs were down to 10 men and battled back to level terms.
The Whites hit the lead with a quarter hour to play with Stevie B's second and could have put the game to bed before the Burgh came back with a late equaliser.
Overall it was an excellent day - great support, strong play and two decent results to kick us off as a senior club.

A lot of the Whites have mentioned how great it was to have the Maroons and their better halves stick around and cheer us on. Thanks guys (and girls), much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteWe should have easily won it, but hey, it was FUN and we showed what we are capable of.
PS Sorry team for getting a bit carried away in front of the open goal. I must have switched personality and thought I was Maradonna.
Is Maradonna on the top 10 list of famous vegetarians?
ReplyDeleteDont know, but I am sure he liked consuming something green...or was it white?
